In 2016, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation entered into a partnership with the École du Louvre to award a research scholarship to their PhD students. Every four years a grant of €30,000 is awarded to an École du Louvre postgraduate who is undertaking a PhD thesis on Francis Bacon, or whose PhD thesis has a direct link with the British artist (comparative studies between Francis Bacon and one or several artists, or thematic studies about his work and his practice). The student’s research project could also take a multi-disciplinary approach, extending into fields such as literature, decorative arts, filmmaking and photography in relation to Francis Bacon.

The €30,000 research scholarship is awarded as three annual payments of €10,000 to cover the student’s various expenses (school fees, accommodation, and travel for research purposes). The student’s research project must be carried out in the postgraduate programme at the École du Louvre or in partnership with a university engaged in a programme under the joint supervision of the École du Louvre.

The next research scholarship will be awarded in 2024. More information and details of how to apply are available on the the École du Louvre website.
