Francis Bacon started visiting Monaco at the dawn of the 1940s. The Principality was his main residence from July 1946 to the early 1950s. Thereafter Bacon continued to regularly visit the Principality and the Côte d’Azur for the rest of his life.

The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, based in Monaco, was founded by Majid Boustany. This non-profit institute is dedicated to the study of Bacon’s work, life and creative process.

On Monaco:

“[…] I love it and find it very good for pictures falling ready-made into the mind.”
